A Joanna Wason stoneware bowl, featuring slip splash decoration and impressed Potter and St Ives marks.
Joanna Wason began her association with the Leach Pottery in 1988, working closely with Janet Leach as her studio assistant. She was responsible for mixing clays and glazes and supporting daily workshop activities until Janet's passing in 1997. Joanna continued to create pottery in the original studio until its closure in 2005 for renovation into the Leach Pottery Museum.
Following this transition, Joanna established her own workshop, where she continues to produce distinctive handmade ceramics. Her work primarily includes pieces thrown in porcelain, red earthenware, and stoneware. Glazed with tenmoku, iron, white, or ash finishes, her forms—ranging from bowls and tea-bowls to elegantly rounded vases—demonstrate a masterful use of colour, glaze, and decorative technique.
